چکیده

Impedance cardiography is a noninvasive technique for monitoring stroke volume (SV), based on sensing variation in the thoracic impedance due to blood flow. In this technique, first derivative of impedance (dz/dt) is used to calculate two parameters: ventricular ejection time and (-dz/dt)max. Respiration and motion artifacts cause base line drift in the sensed impedance waveform, and this results in errors in the estimation of the two parameters. Ensemble averaging of ICG signal suppresses motion artifacts but it introduces distortion in the signal. In this study, simultaneously acquired phonocardiogram (PCG) signal is used to estimate the time difference between the first and second heart sounds as a measure of ventricular ejection time. Since PCG signal is less influenced by respiratory and motion artifacts, it gives a relatively error free measurement.

Abstract Background: Impedance cardiography (ICG) is a simple and inexpensive technique for non-invasive and continues measurement of stroke volume. Due to non-invasive nature, ICG is becoming increasingly used in research and clinical applications. With regard to lack of domestic impedance cardiograph and limited similar imported products in the country, an inexpensive and portable protot...

Anterior-posterior impedance cardiography: a new approach to accurate, non-invasive monitoring of cardiac function.

The conventional impedance cardiogram is a record of pulsatile changes in the electrical impedance of the chest with each heartbeat. The signal seems intuitively related to cardiac stroke volume. However doubts persist about the validity of stroke volume measurements based on electrical impedance. This paper presents a new electrical axis for impedance cardiography that is perpendicular to the ...

The effects of cardiac rehabilitation on haemodynamic parameters measured by impedance cardiography in patients with heart failure.

BACKGROUND Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is an important element of heart failure (HF) treatment although the mechanisms of its beneficial effects remain debatable. AIM To evaluate the haemodynamic effects of CR measured by impedance cardiography in patients with HF. METHODS Study group included 50 HF patients (aged 56.2 ± 8.8 years, NYHA class II and III, left ventricular ejection fraction ≤...

Comparison of the measured pre-ejection periods and left ventricular ejection times between echocardiography and impedance cardiography for optimizing cardiac resynchronization therapy

BACKGROUND The pre-ejection period (PEP) and left ventricular ejection time (LVET) are easily measured by impedance cardiography (ICG). We hypothesized that the PEP/LVET measured by ICG would correlate with that measured by echocardiography, and that PEP/LVET measured by ICG would be useful for cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) optimization. METHODS Newly CRT implanted patients were opt...

Systolic time ratio measured by impedance cardiography accurately screens left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in patients with arterial hypertension

Background The use of impedance cardiography (ICG) may play a role in the assessment of cardiac effects of hypertension (HT), especially its hemodynamic features. Hypertensive heart disease involves structural changes and alterations in left ventricular geometry that end up causing systolic and/or diastolic dysfunction. The IMPEDDANS study aims to assess the usefulness of ICG for the screening ...
